Ex-Rocksteady Developer Criticizes James Gunn's Idea of Same Actors for DCU Movies and Games

This "consistency" plan would replace voice actors with movie ones.

James Gunn revealed the plans for the DCU, mentioning his idea of a "unified universe", which is supposed to connect the stories across movies, TV shows, and video games. The vision includes giving the same voices to characters in these mediums to keep the world consistent.

This idea was not met well by Del Walker, a former developer at Rocksteady, the studio behind the Batman: Arkham series. On Twitter, he noted that movie stars and voice actors have different skills and can't easily replace each other.

"These writers and voice actors do 100 versions of everything. They are in the booth doing 600 lines of dialogue just to end up with 20 of the best in the game.

You think you're going to get Robert Pattinson to outwork a VA actor? And for a budget that makes sense?

Good luck."

He also mentioned that games and cartoons are not 2-hour movies and actors might need to clear their schedules for years. The message was supported by some and criticized by others.

To be fair, Gunn didn't say that all DC creations will be played by the same actors, he left some creative freedom for "Elseworlds", which don't follow the concept.

So far, it is not clear how closely this consistency idea will be followed, so stay tuned to see what happens.
