In a recent interview, Nobuo Uematsu, the legendary composer for the Final Fantasy franchise, shared his creative plans for the future. It seems that Uematsu doesn't want to get involved in composing music for the game series again, saying that he has neither physical nor mental "strength" to do it.

Uematsu added that he'd like to spend more time working on other projects that are close to his heart or focusing on his band, Uematsu Nobuo conTIKI.

"I don't think I'll compose music for a whole game again. You would have to give it full throttle for two or three years. And I don't think I have the physical and mental strength to do it anymore," the composer said. "I think I'd rather use the time I have left to work on other projects that I love. Such as compositions like Merregnon or my band Uematsu Nobuo conTIKI."

Uematsu has been composing music for Final Fantasy games since the series' inception in 1987. While he typically worked on the soundtracks solo, he also collaborated with other composers on certain titles such as Tsuyoshi Sekito in Final Fantasy III, Masashi Hamauzu in Final Fantasy X, Naoshi Mizuta in Final Fantasy XI, Hitoshi Sakimoto in Final Fantasy XII, among others.

Aside from the Final Fantasy series, Uematsu has contributed music to other games including Front Mission: Gun Hazard, Lost Odyssey, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, The Last Story, Romancing SaGa 2, Chrono Trigger, Granblue Fantasy: Relink, and more.

Speaking of the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, players can also hear Uematsu's composition there. The game is set to release on February 29, 2024.

Happy for him. Nothing left to prove in Game Dev. Hope he enjoys a journey in whatever he does next.
