The biggest update for the terrain design tool makes 1.3 the most performant version of the software and introduces 260 new features, fixes, and improvements, including over a hundred new Quickstarts and new nodes.
QuadSpinner announced that Gaea 1.3 – called the biggest and most powerful update – is now ready for production. The update improves Gaea's performance and responsiveness and introduces 260 new features, fixes, and improvements, including over a hundred new Quickstarts and new nodes.
The developers promise up to 30% higher speed and say Gaea 1.3 will be a Long-Term Support (LTS) version.
The software now has a new Rivers node, which creates river networks that can intelligently adapt the terrain to allow river formations while preserving the overall shape and character of your landscape.
In addition, the update introduces other nodes, including Canyon, Craterfield, Distance, DriftNoise, Gabor, Hill, Loop, and many others. There are also some changes made to the Erosion node.
The Combine node now has 2 modes: Insert and Embed. They allow you to merge terrains.
The software's Seamless node can transform any terrain into a repeatable/tileable one and allows you to adjust the transformation. The Repeat node will also help you create a large tiling landscape
Gaea's new Sophia Engine can synthesize meshes to create highly optimized meshes that can save up to 60% polygons based on your terrain shape.
The update also features over 110 new quickstarts that show various aspects of terrain design, including texturing techniques, economy of nodes, and more.
If you want to show off your project, use Turntable Animator that can give a full 360-degree view of your art.
One of the most critical parts of Gaea, according to QuadSpinner, is Build Swarm, which was rewritten and now works more efficiently.
