GSC Game World presented a new story trailer of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl and a video developer diary in which the GSC's staff documented the state of the studio during the current crisis.
During yesterday's Xbox and Bethesda’s extended showcase live stream, Ukrainian studio GSC Game World presented a new story trailer of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl – the long-awaited continuation of the studio's hit first-person shooter survival horror video game. The new cinematic showcases the intro to the next game in the series.
The studio also confirmed that the game's release had been pushed to 2023. The game was initially set to release in April 2021, however, in January GSC announced it would delay the launch of the game until December 2022. The development of the game was later put on hold but in May, GSC Game World shared that it continued working on the title.
In addition to the new trailer, the studio presented a video developer diary in which the GSC's staff documented the state of the studio during the current crisis. While some of the developers now keep working out of Kyiv, the studio also established a new office in Prague, Czech Republic, where much of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2’s development will take place.
In the video, GSC demonstrated that the work on the title continues anyway. According to Vladyslav Pryshchepa, the narrative designer of the game, by doing this, the studio wanted to "share [its] amazing culture and [its] great game with the world."
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl is slated for release in 2023 for Microsoft Windows and the Xbox Series X|S. It will be the fourth installment in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game in 13 years.
