Similar to real-life contraptions, the rig comes to life by turning just one handle.
If I were to hold a contest for this year's most creative 3D rigs, this fantastic setup unveiled recently by 3D Modeler and Rigger TD Silvia Nanni would most certainly be in my Top 5. Permeating the feeling of nostalgia and evoking the long-forgotten memories of childhood, the rig depicts a wooden mechanical horse similar to the ones you can likely find in your local toy store.
Created with Maya, Silvia's contraption not only looks but also works similar to a real one, coming alive by turning just one handle at the base, all thanks to a complex network of IK handles set up by the creator. What's more, the rig is entirely joint-based, making it fully compatible with game engines when exported as an .FBX file.
"The rig is designed to move entirely by rotating the handle, making it user-friendly and accessible for all skill levels. The model features detailed gears and components that enhance its mechanical aesthetic, creating a visually appealing character for your projects," added Silvia. "In the future, I will also make good renders... maybe... when I learn how to do them."
