A Computational Artist created a neural network that sees more in everyday objects.
A Computational Artist, Engineer, and Computer Scientist Memo Akten has created an artificial neural network that looks out onto the world and tries to make sense of what it is seeing. The gimmick of the project is that the network can only see through the filter of what it already knows. Thus, everyday objects become ocean waves and flames, and the human body becomes an entire universe.
"In this context, the term "seeing" refers to both the low-level perceptual and phenomenological experience of vision, as well as the higher-level cognitive act of making meaning, and constructing what we consider to be the truth," comments the author.
