Moon Studios' CEO: the Best Way to Support the Studio Is to Buy the Ori Games on Steam

Playing games through Xbox Game Pass won't directly benefit Moon Studios, they say.

In a recent post on Twitter, Moon Studios CEO and Creative Director Thomas Mahler shared that they've been receiving lots of messages asking about the ways to support the studio.

It seems that the developer spiked interest with the recent showcase of their upcoming game No Rest for the Wicked, which is slated for release on April 18, 2024.

According to Mahler, the best way to support the studio is by purchasing the Ori franchise, and it's interesting that he provided links to the games on Steam, but didn't include links to Xbox Game Pass.

When asked about the Microsoft store, he wrote that playing their games through Xbox Game Pass won't directly benefit Moon Studios.

"If you're a smaller dev and get an upfront fee to put your game on gamepass and it blows up, that's great," he wrote. "I merely pointed out that Moon would make no money at this point from people playing Ori on gamepass – so not the best way to support us!"

He also touched upon the game's release on PlayStation, saying that if anyone wants that, you'd better reach out to Phil Spencer, as they have no control over this.

Adding to the mentioned above, Mahler shared that he supports Microsoft's strategy of making some of its games available on other platforms. He's pretty optimistic that Sony will follow suit and start releasing more titles on PC in the coming years, as both companies aim to broaden their audience, and that's exactly what the industry needs.
