Far Cry 7 and another new project will have different gameplay loops and movement systems.
Ubisoft
Ubisoft has two Far Cry games in development. Set to release in 2026, they were originally created as a single project codenamed Talisker but then transformed into two separate entities. The first game is the series' next mainline title, Far Cry 7, codenamed Blackbird, and the second is an extraction-based multiplayer shooter codenamed Maverick. According to Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson's report, the new games will have differences compared to the established "Far Cry formula."
The gameplay loop of both games will be changed. Maverick will be set in Alaska and will require players to fight one another, animals, and the harsh conditions of the environment to survive. As for Blackbird, it will task players to rescue their family, who were kidnapped by a conspiracy cult involved in hallucinogenic experiments on animals and children. The player will have a limited amount of time โ 24 real-life hours, which equals 72 in-game hours. Players can track the time with an in-game watch on the wrist.

Also, the games have received a changed movement system, including the addition of tactical spriting, sliding, vaulting, and more. The two games will share many same features, as they emerged from one project. The future mainline title, Far Cry 7, will have some features of the extraction-based shooter Maverick. However, according to the report, sources underscore that those elements didn't affect the core of the game.
According to the Insider Gaming report, Ubisoft is optimistic but also concerned about the future reception of Maverick, given the recent cancelation of XDefiant and and subsequent layoffs.
