New Starfield Patch Promises to Fix The Game's Uncanny NPCs

It also addresses memory-related issues, improves gameplay, and introduces NVIDIA DLSS support.

Bethesda has released Starfield Beta Update 1.8.83, a new patch for its space-themed RPG that lets Steam players explore the upcoming Starfield update in a dedicated Beta version of the game before it becomes available to all Xbox and PC players later this month.

The update comes with a plethora of new features and general improvements, introducing NVIDIA DLSS support, enhancing the game's overall performance, and, most importantly, addressing the unsettling and unnatural appearance of the game's NPCs by fixing their eyes.

Here's a list of what Starfield Beta Update 1.8.83 brings to the table:

  • NVIDIA DLSS is now supported, allowing compatible NVIDIA graphic cards to use DLSS Super Resolution, Deep Learning Anti-aliasing (DLAA), NVIDIA Reflex Low Latency, and DLSS Frame generation.
  • Added the ability to ingest food and drink items upon finding them in the environment without adding them to the inventory first.
  • Addressed a number of memory-related issues and leaks.
  • Various stability and performance improvements.
  • Adjusted stealth to be a bit more forgiving.
  • Fixed an issue that could prevent players from firing their weapons.
  • Fixed issues where some NPC could be seen not wearing clothes.
  • Addressed an issue with how ambient occlusion appeared in ultrawide resolutions.
  • Fixed various visual issues related to the new FOV slider options.
  • Improved the appearance of the eyes on crowd characters.
  • Quest fixes.
  • And more.

Earlier, one of Bethesda's developers addressed Starfield's procedurally generated planets, saying that they are empty by design. According to a verified Steam user, "Bethesda_FalcoYamaoka", the planets were intentionally designed to be empty and evoke a feeling of being overwhelmed.

Additionally, the developer quoted Bethesda's Managing Director, Ashley Cheng, who had stirred controversy among fans back in September by likening Starfield's desolate spaces to the experiences of the first astronauts on the Moon.
