Open-Source Houdini Mass Zone Graph Translator For UE5

Adrian Pan presented a custom solution designed to streamline the creation of procedural tools in Unreal Engine using Houdini.

Developed by NetEase's Senior Technical Artist Adrian Pan, Houdini Mass Translator is an open-source plug-in that provides seamless integration between Houdini and Unreal Engine's Zone Graph. It allows zone shape input and output and updates in real-time within the Unreal editor, even on a large scale.

This translator is compatible with Unreal Engine 5.3 and later, as well as Houdini 20.5.278 or newer. Adrian Pan's goal was to support users still leveraging Houdini for procedural tool creation in Unreal Engine, and he is looking forward to seeing what can be achieved with Houdini in Unreal Engine with this plug-in.

"From last year, there's a voice that Unreal PCG will definitely take the place of Houdini. I just want to say that I love both of them, and both of the tools have their own advantages.

For me, one cannot replace the other in real-world production. Especially for performance, Houdini could be way much faster than Unreal 5.4 PCG if we optimize our HDAs and Houdini-Unreal pipeline carefully", commented the developer.
