Last week, Elon Musk, one of the Co-Founders of OpenAI, filed a lawsuit accusing the startup of violating their founding agreement to create AI for the betterment of humanity instead of profit, by collaborating with Microsoft.

As expected, OpenAI has announced its plans to challenge the allegations. They have also released what seems to be private emails from Musk as evidence to support their stance.

"We're sad that it's come to this with someone whom we've deeply admired – someone who inspired us to aim higher, then told us we would fail, started a competitor, and then sued us when we started making meaningful progress towards OpenAI's mission without him," OpenAI shared in its blog.

According to the statements and emails, OpenAI confirmed that it needed more funding than originally planned, prompting Musk to suggest $1 billion instead of the initial $100 million. The company recognized it would be hard to make this amount of money.

Later, Musk seemingly sought majority ownership, board control, and the CEO position in the for-profit venture, which was against the principles of the startup, as no one should have such power, and withheld funding during these negotiations. Later, Musk proposed "OpenAI to attach to Tesla as its cash cow".

He later departed, expressing skepticism about OpenAI's future.

As for now, OpenAI disputes claims that it is now a Microsoft subsidiary and maintains its commitment to providing access to powerful AI for the benefit of humanity.

"The mission of OpenAI is to ensure AGI benefits all of humanity, which means both building safe and beneficial AGI and helping create broadly distributed benefits. We are now sharing what we've learned about achieving our mission, and some facts about our relationship with Elon. We intend to move to dismiss all of Elon's claims," stated the startup.
