On August 10, 2023, Blizzard officially released Overwatch 2 on Steam, delivering on its earlier promise to bring a selection of their games to Valve's game platform.
In case you missed it, back in July, the developer announced its plans to expand their game offerings to Steam, a decision made to enrich accessibility and gameplay for a wider player base beyond those using Battle.net.
The first game launched on Valve's platform became Overwatch 2, which arrived alongside Overwatch 2: Invasion, a pay-to-play bundle featuring the much-awaited PvE Story Missions, a new core PvP game mode with two new maps, and a new hero. In less than 24 hours, the game reached a peak online of 50,765, as per SteamDB's data.

The shooter, however, didn't receive a warm welcome from the community. Apparently, releasing a highly-controversial Overwatch 2 on the same platform that houses the game that inspired Overwatch in the first place wasn't a very good idea when it comes to user feedback, as only 18% out of nearly 20K user reviews are positive, giving the game an Overwhelmingly Negative status.
As for the reviews themselves, one can expect the usual complaints regarding Overwatch 2, including but not limited to the absence of promised features (PvE mode, skills, etc.), the game being a "soulless cash grab", a "husk of its former self", and "worse than Overwatch 1", and such. It is also worth noting that many of the game's positive reviews are sarcastic in nature, meaning that OW2's actual approval rating on Steam is even lower than 18%.
