CD Projekt RED confirmed that the upcoming Phantom Liberty is "the only planned expansion" for Cyberpunk 2077.
When CD Projekt RED announced Phantom Liberty, a story expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, some media outlets and bloggers suggested that it might be just the first of at least two DLCs. However, the studio previously hinted that Cyberpunk 2077 will receive only one expansion.
In 2022, the company began to refer to the upcoming story-driven DLC as the "expansion" singular instead of the plural. In addition, CD Projekt CEO Adam Kiciński revealed that the upcoming expansion for Cyberpunk will be the last project powered by REDengine seemingly confirming that it would be the only DLC the game will get.
And now, the company has explicitly confirmed that there is only one expansion planned. Though there is no information about that either on the studio's website or on Twitter, the confirmation can be found in comments to the official teaser trailer for Phantom Liberty.
In a comment chain started by YouTube user Jonna Dragneel, CD Projekt RED responded to a question regarding the future expansions beyond the upcoming Phantom Liberty.
"Glad to hear we sparked your interest!" the studio wrote via Cyberpunk 2077 YouTube account. "As for the future, Phantom Liberty is the only planned expansion for Cyberpunk 2077."
Phantom Liberty will be a spy-thriller expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 which unfolds before the finale of the main story. According to CD Projekt RED, Keanu Reeves will return to the role of Johnny Silverhand and will be an important part of the plot. The release of the DLC is scheduled for 2023. The expansion will be available only for the current generation of consoles and PC.
