Reportedly, it will be even harder to buy a PS5 in 2022.
The ongoing global chip shortage has already taken its toll on the production of new generation consoles, with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S being quite hard to buy these days. But it seems that the situation is not going to get any better in 2022 either. Reportedly, Sony has trimmed production plans for the PlayStation 5 by around one million consoles due to chip shortages and logistic constraints.
According to Bloomberg, Sony had previously targeted more than 16 million units assembled in the year ending March, setting it up to achieve its sales goal for the period and also get a head start on the subsequent year’s production. The company has now cut that number down to about 15 million, making its aim of 14.8 million PS5 sales.
Sony’s manufacturing partners expect the PlayStation 5 to remain in tight supply through 2022 and said that producing enough units to achieve the company’s target of 22.6 million sales in the next fiscal year will be challenging.
