Real-Time Clothing Simulations Set Up With Vsim

Vsim's Michelle Lu shared a cool reel showcasing some of the amazing clothing simulations the team has achieved.

Michelle Lu, a former Director of Simulation Technology at NVIDIA and Co-Founder of VSim, a scalable simulation platform focusing on hyper-scale simulations, has recently shared a cool demo showcasing a series of high-fidelity clothing simulations the VSim team has managed to set up.

According to Michelle, these clothing simulations operate in real-time and were created using Marvelous Designer, a renowned 3D software for crafting virtual clothing assets. The character animations utilized in these simulations were sourced from Mixamo. Notably, the author emphasized that the "collisions between avatar and cloth are handled with deforming mesh rather than approximate primitive geometries as would usually be used in game engines."

Moreover, Michelle also revealed just how many triangles each model has:

  • T-shirt and pants model: 41,163 triangles
  • Anime girl dress: 105,917 triangles
  • Shirring dress: 146,264 triangles
  • Shorts and hoodie: 69,918 triangles
