Check out a post by Gabriel Enriquez on how to recreate the portal effect from the latest Ratchet & Clank.
Gabriel Enriquez showed his experiments with portals in Unreal Engine inspired by Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. The artist decided to create a portal transition effect between maps using level streaming. The demo also uses Epic’s Infiltrator Demo and Zen Garden assets.
Enriquez shared a diagram to show how the effect is structured:
As for the effect itself, the portal is set up with Level Streaming which allows asynchronous loading and unloading of levels during play. This method decreases memory usage and creates seamless worlds. Want to learn more about the technique and recreate the effect yourself?
