During the Capcom Next Summer 2024 stream, Capcom confirmed the development of the next entry in the long-standing survival horror franchise, Resident Evil. The project is being directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the lead behind Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which is credited with revitalizing the series in 2017. The director shared:
"It was really difficult to figure out what to do after 7, but I found it, and to be honest it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can."
Rumors about RE 9 began circulating earlier this year. According to industry insider AestheticGamer aka Dusk Golem, the game would be set on a fictional island in Southeast Asia, and in May, they hinted that the game might embrace an open world. In the livestream video, Nakanishi said he and other developers believe that Resident Evil games should "scare the hell out of you." Well, these snippets of information could piece together what we might expect from the next primary installment in the franchise.
