Rumor: Star Citizen Dev Might be Working on a New Game

Cloud Imperium's newly registered trademark is about "downloadable video game software."

Cloud Imperium, the developer of the crowdfunded space simulation game Star Citizen, has registered a trademark, which might hint at a new game in development.

Brought to our attention by Reddit user 24495, who wrote in a post on Reddit, the word mark “SOULSINGER” was filed by Cloud Imperium on June 25, which belongs to the category of “downloadable computer games software; downloadable video game software.”

This has created a buzz in the community. Some assume it’ll be the third game from the developer following Star Citizen, which has been in the alpha period since nearly eleven years ago and received over $721 million in funding by the time of writing this article, and Squadron 42, a single-player game that takes place in Star Citizen. Squadron 42 achieved feature completion last October, and the creators will shift to the polishing phase.

A user on Imgur shared that the rumored third title would be a “fantasy-inspired” game created with the Star Engine, the same engine used by Star Citizen and Squadron 42.

However, some players tend to believe “SOULSINGER” could refer to an activity or event inside Star Citizen rather than a brand-new game. Cloud Imperium has a history of registering trademarks such as Squadron 42, Star Engine, and Bar Citizen, a fun-organized meetup of Star Citizens, so this guess is also reasonable.

Cloud Imperium Games has been organizing CitizenCon, the yearly fan convention to celebrate the community’s anniversary. The next Citizencon will be held in Manchester Central in a bit more than a month, on October 19 and October 20. There is a chance that more about the newly registered trademark will be disclosed during the event.
