Testing Heavy Rain & Snow in Unreal Engine 5

Technical Artist Dmitry Karpukhin has demonstrated how UE5 handles tons of rain and snow particles.

Tech Artist and Unreal Engine enthusiast Dmitry Karpukhin has demonstrated the results of a performance test of the newly-released Unreal Engine 5. The test consisted of spawning myriads of snow and rain particle in the engine to see how it would fare. The result looks completely marvelous and extremely realistic. The artist mentioned that it is possible to push the engine even further and increase the particle density even more.

Dmitry also commented that this was a test of the upcoming "GPU Precipitation" feature for the Sky Creator plug-in, an extensive tool to control dynamic time of day and weather settings using realistic volumetric clouds and atmosphere in Unreal Engine. The plug-in allows you to create endless amounts of different-looking weather and lighting conditions and switch any of them in real-time using a built-in weather preset system. According to the creator, the UE5 version of the plug-in has already been sent for approval and should be available in the coming days.
