The Ace Combat Devs Share Stories to Celebrate 25th Anniversary

Two people behind this universally acclaimed series Kazutoki Kono and Manabu Shimomoto talked about the game's history.

Brand director Kazutoki Kono and Ace Combat 7 producer Manabu Shimomoto shared a lot of information about the Ace Combat series in the interview dedicated to the franchise's 25th anniversary.

The interview is divided into 2 parts. The first part is mainly focused on discussing Ace Combat's history, while the second part is more about the production process and secrets behind the popularity of the games.

In these interviews, Kazutoki Kono and Manabu Shimomoto shared with the readers some interesting behind-the-scenes information, like the fact that the game was not planned like a flight simulator, without taking realism into consideration.

"From its start, the series was not a flight simulator but a flight combat game. The focus was not on realism but on letting players feel like fighter pilots", comments Kono.

Both parts of the interview are filled with interesting facts about both games and the production process. For example, did you know that different parts of the series are based on various appeals that film-directors use in making movies? This interview features a segment where this feature of the series is talked about.

"ACE04 had a story with the emotional appeal of European cinema, while the story in ACE5 played out more like a Hollywood film. I was honestly really surprised to later learn that people like director Katabuchi, Kono, and other members of the staff had made both titles", said Shimomoto
