Fallout creator Tim Cain shared some interesting details about the game.
Tim Cain, the creator of Fallout, has recently revealed that The Outer Worlds was pitched as a "Fallout meets Firefly" RPG.
In his video where he talked about how to make a good setting for a computer game, he shared that the idea to combine the famous franchise and the Western about a spaceship crew came from one of the Obsidian Entertainment founders:
"An elevator pitch is a very short description of what you're trying to do. The elevator pitch for The Outer Worlds was Fallout meets Firefly. That wasn't even from me, that came from one of the founders of Obsidian. And we ran with it."
The game was supposed to be appealing to casual RPG players. Cain said the story and mechanics when making such a game can still be complex, but you need to "lower the slope."
"The view from a mountaintop is just as gorgeous whether you rock climbed up that mountain or drove up in a car."
The Outer Worlds was released in 2019 and received generally positive feedback. Do you think the "Fallout meets Firefly" idea found its place in the game?
