The Rogue Prince of Persia Launches in Early Access with a New Trailer

The director revealed that the story had to be altered due to its similarity with Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown.

The highly anticipated game, The Rogue Prince of Persia finally made its early-access debut on Steam yesterday, May 27, after a slight delay from its initial release date of May 14.

To mark the occasion, the team rolled out an Early Access Launch Trailer and offered a 10% discount.

As we welcome this new addition to the Prince of Persia family, we can't help but think of another recent entry, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which launched in January of this year, just a few months ago.

The fact is that the development of these two games ran parallel and there was some narrative cross-over. Lucie Dewagnier, director of the roguelike game, shared with Edge Magazine (spotted by Games Radar) that her team had to make alterations to their game's setup to avoid clashing with The Lost Crown’s story.

As we already know, Rogue Prince of Persia was developed by Evil Empire, known for the acclaimed roguelike, Dead Cells. Despite a few minor narrative clashes with Ubisoft, the owner of the Prince of Persia franchise, Evil Empire was granted the freedom to shape this iconic character, as stated by Dewagnier.

However, there is one limit, "We cannot use the Sands of Time daggers because they belong to that trilogy," but Dewagnier said it was not a big issue because Evil Empire "wanted to do something unique".
