The Sims' Project Rene Has Multiplayer But Is Not MMO

More details about the upcoming The Sims successor.

While The Sims 4 still gets new content now and then, developers from the studio are working on its next game codenamed Project Rene, which is essentially The Sims 5 as far as we can tell.

In the latest Behind The Sims series, game director Grant Rodiek shared some details about the project, once again focusing on the multiplayer elements introduced in the game: you can build a house and customize everything inside together with a friend now.

However, he said that Project Rene "is not an MMO": "It is not this public, shared space where everything you do is always with other people." So expect the familiar single-player setting but with more online options."

The new game will offer a much deeper customization mechanic than The Sims 4 had: you can change colors, patterns, materials, and sizes of different parts of furniture, for example, so your apartment can look even more unique than before. Rodiek called this Apartment Customization, which makes us wonder if Rene will be mostly focused on apartment life.

Another major feature to come is cross-platform compatibility, which is supposed to "remove the barriers" when playing The Sims. you can access the game any time either from your PC or mobile and continue creating from anywhere.

Rodiek noted that Project Rene is still early in development and is years away from release. Hopefully, we will get more footage from the game soon.
