Third Sonic Movie is On the Way As Well As the New Knuckles TV Series

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is coming our way and will be out in April this year. Although it is still quite long until we see the sequel's premiere, Sega has already announced that it's going to expand the franchise’s universe and has already launched two projects.

Paramount and Sega confirmed that they've started the development of a third feature film to the Sonic franchise, though they didn't share any details on it. At the same time, the two companies revealed that the films will also have a TV series spin-off, which will be released on the Paramount Plus streaming service in 2023. The series will feature the character Knuckles the Echidna who will be voiced by Idris Elba.

"We are delighted to announce that the third Sonic theatrical film and the first live-action Sonic series for Paramount Plus are being actively developed," shared Sega CEO Haruki Satomi, "We’ve got a remarkable partnership with Paramount, and we are excited to continue expanding the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise with them." 

The heads of Paramount and Sega also reminded the franchise's fans that this year, we should expect not only the film but also a new major game in the franchise – Sonic Frontiers.

Sonic the Hedgehog's sequel is set to come out on April 8 bringing back the original cast along with Idris Elba debuting as Knuckles.
