Check out Character Tracker for Maya, a neat animation tool developed by Felipe Za, a Pipeline Technical Director II at Industrial Light & Magic, that allows its user to control a rig in Maya 2022 or 2023 in a way similar to that of a video game. According to the creator, all you need to do is create clips out of your treadmill animations and import them, and Character Tracker for Maya will do the rest.
To get started with the tool, you need to unzip Character Tracker to your maya/scripts/ folder, so the contents should end up like this: C:/Users/user/Documents/maya/scripts/CharacterTracker. Then, you need to open Maya 2022 or 2023 and run:
- import CharacterTracker
- CharacterTracker.run()
Please note that the tool is compatible with Python3 only. The creator has also shared an insightful tutorial that explains how to get started with Character Tracker for Maya and provides an overview of its features:
In the future, the creator plans to continue working on the tool and further enhance its capabilities, with the prioritized task being to add complex terrain collisions.
