Valve's Steam Deck Can Now Be Purchased Without Reservation

However, the company warns that "production, processing, and shipping bandwidth is still finite."

Valve has announced that its handheld gaming PC, Steam Deck, is finally available for purchase without reservation.

The portable PC was first announced in July 2021 and since then, Valve had been using a reservation system for Steam Deck orders requiring people to first pay a small deductible sum to join the pre-order line and then wait for the invitation to confirm their reservation and pay the rest sum of the order.

The wait between the two steps was at first up to several months, although later Valve ramped up the production of the device, outperformed even its own estimates, and finished all Q3 (July – September) reservations for Steam Deck earlier than expected.

And now, Valve revealed that 15 months after reservations for Steam Deck initially opened, the portable PC can be purchased immediately, without standing in the reservation line.

However, the company noted that "production, processing, and shipping bandwidth is still finite." So it warned that if order volume for a specific Steam Deck model is higher than the company's ability to ship "in a timely manner", the current estimated delivery time of 1-2 weeks can lengthen, and at a certain point, Valve can return to reservation mode until the moment it is "able to catch up."

Additionally, Valve also revealed that its long-awaited official Steam Deck dock is also now available for purchase and that it started taking Steam Deck pre-orders in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.
