The news was announced by the general manager of the Warcraft franchise John Hight. According to Height, Metzen will be joining the Warcraft Leadership Team as a Creative Advisor. At first, the Blizzard veteran will focus on World of Warcraft, but after that, he will take on other projects in the "growing franchise".
"Chris was one of the original team members working on the Warcraft universe back when it began in 1994, and we are so happy to be returning him with the world he helped create," Hight wrote.
Chris Metzen is a game designer and artist who has worked on three major Blizzard franchises: Warcraft, Diablo, and StarCraft. He left Blizzard in 2016 as, according to him, it was "time to slow down." Two years after Metzen's departure from Blizzard, he founded his own company, Warchief Gaming, which produces board games.
