Xiaomi Reveals CyberDog, a Quadruped Robot Companion

The company says that the four-legged dog-like robot is a "true beast".

First and foremost, this is an open-source creation from Xiaomi which means the developers can build upon CyberDog's existing features. The smart pet is powered by Nvidia's Jetson Xavier NX platform which is an AI Supercomputer with 384 CUDA Cores and 2 deep learning acceleration engines. This allows CyberDog to process overwhelming amounts of data input from the sensor system like it's nothing. Speaking of sensors, Xiaomi attempted to make the robot as close to real-world creatures as possible so CyberDog has 11 high-precision sensors (including touch sensors, cameras, GPS modules, etc.) to help it interact with the environment.

All of those technical details sound pretty impressive but the most exciting thing is that according to Xiaomi, this robot behaves almost like a real dog. Not only can it move at 3.2m/s and perform backflips but it can also understand commands. You can set words for a variety of actions (just like you would do when using a voice assistant) and the dog will know what you want it to do. Plus, with a mind-blowing amount of sensors and cameras which include AI interactive cameras and binocular ultra wide angle fisheye cameras, the robot dog is able to perceive its surroundings with outstanding accuracy and move in space swiftly and gracefully (which, being honest, even the smartest dogs sometimes fail to do).

"Today, Xiaomi is releasing 1,000 units of CyberDog at RMB 9,999 ($1,541) to Xiaomi Fans, engineers, and robotic enthusiasts to jointly explore the immense possibility of CyberDog," the company stated.
