A Closer Look at Deforming Tetrahedral Meshes

Artem Smirnov shared a short RnD presentation on better tetrahedral deformation.

In case you missed it, around a week ago, Senior FX Technical Director Artem Smirnov shared an informative RnD presentation providing a closer look at deforming tetrahedral meshes.

Based on Pixar's Phong Deformation, a simple and robust vertex-based quadratic interpolation scheme that reduces visual artifacts for embedded geometry, Artem's tetrahedral deformation method was intended to be used for volume deformation but, according to the author, "suffered from artifacts on the tet boundaries".

The creator added that this presentation, as well as the .hip file with a basic example released alongside it, "might be useful to someone interested in tetrahedral deformers".
