A Closer Look at the 1994 Donkey Kong Country's Animations

The models were animated and rendered using PowerAnimator.

Jonathan Cooper, an award-winning Animator who worked on such titles as Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Uncharted, and The Last of Us, shared a look at how 3D models for games were animated back in the years when 3D graphics were a novelty.

The short video shared by Jonathan demonstrates the process of animating and modeling models for Nintendo's 1994 platformer Donkey Kong Country, as well as showcases how references for the animations had been gathered. According to the author, the working process shown in the video took place in PowerAnimator, a 3D modeling, animation, and VFX application of the bygone era that eventually evolved into Autodesk's Maya and Alias. You can check out the full video attached above or by visiting Jonathan's Twitter page.
