Principal Environment Artist at Naughty Dog Matthew Trevelyan Johns has recently shared a new ArtStation post providing a closer look at the incredible ice and snow shaders created for The Last of Us Part I, a 2022 remake of the original 2013 game.
In this breakdown, the author shared tons of details on how the aforementioned shaders were made, explaining how the illusion of depth was set up, what layers they consisted of, how the realistic-looking cracks and chips were set up, and more. On top of that, the creator revealed the software used to create the shaders, noting that the team utilized Maya and Substance 3D software.
