A Closer Look at Virtual Production of Netflix's 1899

Apparently, the team really hated green screens.

Netflix Production Technology Resources released a video showing the behind-the-scenes virtual production of its 1899 show.

The filmmakers discussed using "first-of-its-kind" virtual production techniques, explained how they had overcome their hatred toward green screens, and demonstrated how they managed to achieve realistic atmospheric effects like rain. You can also see the gorgeous environments the team used for photogrammetry.

1899 is a 2022 series exploring the themes of time travel, fate, and parallel worlds. Starring Emily Beecham, Aneurin Barnard, and Andreas Pietschmann, it has a score of 75% on Rotten Tomatoes.
