A Tomb Raider TV Series Is Reportedly Being Developed by Amazon

It is claimed that the Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge will write for the show and executive produce it.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the creator of the Emmy-winning show Fleabag, is reportedly working on a TV series based on the Tomb Raider video game franchise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the English actress and screenwriter is creating a Tomb Raider series for Amazon as part of a multi-project deal with the company. The outlet's sources report that Waller-Bridge will write for the series but won't star in it.

She is also said to executive produce the show alongside Ryan Andolina, a former Amazon head of comedy and drama, as well as former head of overall deals Amanda Greenblatt. dj2 CEO and founder Dmitri M. Johnson is also claimed to be involved in the project as an executive producer.

The Hollywood Reporter says that the show is currently in the development stages. Rather than that, there are almost no details on the project.

Tomb Raider debuted in 1996 for PC and the original PlayStation and had multiple sequels. It was also rebooted in 2013. The franchise has already had two live-action adaptations: a 2001 film starring Angelina Jolie and a 2018 film with Alicia Vikander.

This new TV show is not the only Tomb Raider project Amazon is currently working on (if it indeed is developing this TV project). Last month, it was revealed that Amazon Games would publish the next game based on the franchise – the project is being developed by Crystal Dynamics and is set to be a UE5-powered story-driven adventure game.
