Amazon Games To Publish Crystal Dynamics' Next Tomb Raider Game

Amazon Games has partnered with Crystal Dynamics to publish the studio's upcoming UE5-powered Tomb Raider game.

Amazon Games will be the publisher of the next Tomb Raider game – it will be the first time the company will tackle a story-driven adventure game of this scale.

The company revealed its collaboration with developer Crystal Dynamics via a press release noting that it will publish the multiplatform title around the world. The publisher hasn't revealed much detail about the upcoming game, only saying that it will be a single-player, narrative-driven adventure that will include "all the elements that have made Tomb Raider one of the most revered franchises in gaming."

According to Crystal Dynamics's head Scot Amos, Amazon Games will not only provide support by publishing the game but will also "rewrite what publishing and development collaborations are." However, Amos didn't specify how exactly Amazon Games and Crystal Dynamics' collaboration will be different from the usual relationship between a developer and a publisher.

"Crystal Dynamics has an extraordinary opportunity following our acquisition by Embracer to redefine what a publishing relationship is for Tomb Raider," Amos said. "Transformative is what we’re looking for, and with Amazon Games, we found a team that shares our creative vision, ambitions, and values for a Lara Croft universe across the spectrum of possibilities."

The next Tomb Raider game was first announced in April, before Crystal Dynamics became part of Embracer Group. It will be powered by Unreal Engine 5 which, according to the team, will help them to take their storytelling to the next level. It will be the first mainline Tomb Raider title since 2018's Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
