Before the Nintendo Direct, held a few days ago, the whole community was indulging in a highly anticipated atmosphere for the new Switch device; however, the mood after the event doesn't seem to be that welcoming, primarily due to the company's decision to push the game prices beyond the industry standard of $70. As the "drop the price" campaign is ongoing among the players, how might Nintendo be reacting?
The situation has been described as "a true crisis moment for Nintendo" in the latest video uploaded on the Kit & Krysta YouTube Channel, run by the two who used to work at Nintendo of America as PR managers for over thirty years.
Both former employees criticized Nintendo for not disclosing the prices during the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation. In case you missed this part, the Japanese gaming giant "skipped" the software pricing during the live stream but updated its websites with details later on, revealing that the upcoming Mario Kart World would carry a suggested retail price of $80, which could be intentional, as some players believed. The company might be relying on players to overlook the price increase due to their excitement.
Not surprisingly, this has caused huge backlash and relevant discussions are everywhere, but a few days have passed, and there has been no official communication regarding the situation yet. "The problem is, you know, one of the consequences of Nintendo being completely silent in all of these is that they are now enabling the story to get out of their hands," Krysta said. "They've lost control of this." Kit agreed with her.
The duo believes that this would actually result in even more misinformation, and as a result, Nintendo needs to put more effort into correcting them. Krysta speculates that an official statement might be made later. "They're likely working on something. There's gonna be a recommendation about putting out something official about this."
Meanwhile, in the comment section, disappointed fans wonder why the tutorial "game" Welcome Tour is not included as a free pack but will instead be paid content. Many have considered this "an immediate red flag."
