The team is trying "to understand and address the key issues."

Last December, Embark Studios unexpectedly released THE FINALS, a free-to-play first-person shooter game on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. It quickly amassed huge group of players and generally received positive reviews from critics, earning 80 out of 100 points on Metacritic and a 75% positive review rating on Steam.

However, despite the promising start, Nexon's most recent financial update revealed that THE FINALS isn't meeting its expected performance benchmarks. The publisher acknowledged:

“The launch of Season 2 in March created a short-lived increase in player metrics but delivered lower-than-expected retention and revenue. The Embark team is working with our Korea-based Live Operations team to understand and address the key issues.”

The report also noted that thanks to THE FINALS and Dave the Diver, Nexon's income from North America and Europe soared to ¥9.9 billion, reflecting a 92% year-over-year increase.
Since its launch, the game has consistently rolled out substantial updates featuring new outfits, maps, and weapons, much to the delight of players. A new game mode, Terminal Attack, was introduced on May 2 as part of the second season. This mode, only available in THE FINALS for a limited time, presents unique challenges, including no character health recovery, no option for teammate revival, and a single life for each player.
