Adobe After Effects 23.0 Released

Version 23.0 overhauls workflow for matte layers, adds native H.264 encoding, and introduces 3D model import and OpenColorIO and ACES color management.

Adobe has released After Effects 23.0, the latest version of its digital visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing software.

Version 23.0 overhauled how matte layers work – the software added a new Track Matte drop-down menu in the Timeline Panel that allows defining any layer as a track matte. Now, instead of positioning the matte above the target layer, you can use any layer of your composition as a Track Matte and even apply a single matte layer to multiple target layers.

After Effects 23.0 also introduced the Native H.264 Encoding option. The option can be found in the Output Module settings and thanks to it, users can now encode videos using the H.264 codec directly from the After Effects Render Queue instead of having to use Media Encoder.

The After Effects Composition Presets list has also been reworked. The software added 50 new animation presets for motion graphics work as well as brought workflow improvements to timeline navigation and the Composition Presets lists.

The new version also brings faster timeline navigation and introduces Cinema 4D optional installer.

Several new features appeared in After Effects 23.0, including 3D model import, Properties Panel, and OpenColorIO and ACES color management (all currently available in Beta).

Now users can import 3D models, add them to their compositions, edit and animate the transformation, and render them without additional plugins.

The new Properties Panel allows users to quickly access the important properties of selected layers in Timeline Panel rather than twirl open multiple layer hierarchies or a different panel.

The support for OpenColorIO and ACES color management significantly simplifies the ACES workflow and enables users to work natively in ACES within After Effects.
