Adobe Introduces Color Grading Mode For Premiere In Public Beta

A new AI-powered Object Matte in After Effects, the debut of Frame.io Drive, and more updates.

Adobe

Ahead of the NAB Show 2026, Adobe announced several updates focused on video workflows. Premiere Pro, the popular editing software, takes center stage with the introduction of Color Mode, a new interface that lets editors do color grading directly on native footage without relying on third-party apps.

Color Mode is now available in public beta for all Premiere subscribers, with a full release planned later in 2026. Adobe describes it as highly intuitive, noting that users won't need to learn a new workflow. Most controls are bi-directional: move the mouse up or down for one adjustment and left or right for another, or hold Shift for more precise single-axis control. Each adjustment triggers a heads-up display with scopes, numerical data, and real-time visual feedback to guide editing decisions.

In addition to Color Mode, Premiere Pro 26.2 introduces new effects and transitions powered by Film Impact, better Object Masking with Sharp and Smooth edge options, and a searchable Sequence Index panel for easier navigation of complex timelines. Offline media relinking has also been improved.

Premiere isn't the only software getting color workflow upgrades. The Firefly Video Editor now includes simple color adjustment controls for quick tweaks, along with Enhance Speech and other audio tools, plus the addition of Kling 3.0 and Kling 3.0 Omni video models.

After Effects received an AI-powered Object Matte for faster rotoscoping and masking. With just a hover and click, you can quickly isolate moving subjects, touch things up with a few strokes of the Quick Selection brush, and clean up challenging details, like hair, using the Refine Edge tool.

Finally, Adobe is launching Frame.io Drive, a desktop app that lets you work with Frame.io projects as if they're stored locally. Once mounted, your media appears in Finder or Explorer and works like local files. You can open footage in Premiere, use assets in Photoshop, or start work in After Effects without downloading anything first.

Frame.io Drive will roll out in phases. Enterprise customers can access it starting today, with other Frame.io plans to follow soon after.
