After Effects Introduces Longer Composition Previews Using Disk Caching

Say goodbye to RAM limitations with the latest software's beta version.

Released over a week ago, this update is pretty big, bringing major improvements to Adobe After Effects workflows by moving away from the limitations of RAM Preview and switching to a more efficient disk-based system.

With Improved Caching for Longer Playback now available for After Effects Beta 25.2.0.079, users can now preview compositions of any length with only disk space constraints while rendered frames persist on the drive. The system intelligently cycles between disk and RAM for improved performance across all machines, especially beneficial for lower-spec systems.

The update enables previewing of lengthy 4K compositions at 60 FPS, free from RAM limitations, an essential workflow boost for motion designers. Adobe states that Improved Caching for Longer Playback marks the start of a major shift in how the software handles playback. Beta testing for this feature will take longer than some others, as they're focused on getting it just right, so learn more here and give it a try.
