AIAS Opens Submissions for Game Maker’s Sketchbook Showcase
The submissions will be collected in six categories – Storyboard, Environment Art, Character Art, Iconography, Curiosities, and Impact – and will be open until October 17.
The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences (AIAS), a non-profit organization of video game industry professionals best known as the organizer of the annual Design Innovate Communicate Entertain summit (D.I.C.E.), announced that it has opened submission for its annual arts showcase, Game Maker’s Sketchbook Showcase.
Game Maker’s Sketchbook Showcase will be produced in collaboration with iam8bit and fortyseven communications and will be aimed at promoting and honoring a "broad spectrum of art by specific artists" in the video games industry.
The artworks will be collected in six categories:
- Storyboard – illustrations, diagrams and/or drawn sequences used to visualize a cutscene, narrative, or gameplay scene, demonstrating the flow of animation and scene direction;
- Environment Art – the visuals that encompass the world that characters inhabit, including 3D and 2D art that functions as the basis for constructing a physical game world;
- Character Art – explorations, 2D compositions and/or 3D modeling focusing on any elements that go into designing the visual elements of character;
- Iconography – graphic design and iconographic elements meant to engross the player in the identity of the game world;
- Curiosities – anything that doesn’t quite qualify for the other more succinctly focused categories;
- Impact – an iconic, singular image that captures the game's visual language, character and/or narrative.
The submissions will be open from September 8 to October 17, and the selected works will be announced with The Game Awards during the week of December 5, 2022.
The organizers note that submissions must correspond with a video game title published publicly on or after January 1, 2022.
