Amazon Cuts Nearly 100 Jobs from Its Gaming Divisions

The layoffs occurred a few weeks after the company had already let go of over 400 staff members from Twitch.

As part of its continued job cuts across the company, Amazon has reduced its workforce by almost 100 employees within its gaming units. According to Bloomberg's report, the impacted individuals include staff members from Prime Gaming, Game Growth, and Amazon's San Diego studio.

In a memo to employees on Tuesday, Vice President of Games, Christoph Hartmann, stated that the company's resources will be redirected to reinforce their focus on content. He further added that the company will "continue to invest in [its] internal development efforts, and [its] teams will continue to grow as [the] projects progress."

Additionally, Hartmann mentioned that despite the layoffs, the employees involved in an undisclosed project at the San Diego studio will intensify their efforts in the pre-production phase of the game. Additionally, Amazon's Montreal studio, which is also working on an unannounced project, will carry on with its expansion plans.

In March, Amazon announced that it would be cutting approximately 9,000 jobs across the company, which included over 400 Twitch employees. At the time, CEO Andy Jassy mentioned that the firm had reviewed its operations, including job reductions, which resulted in 18,000 employees being laid off in January.
