Amazon Is Working on the Warhammer 40k Cinematic Universe Starring Henry Cavill

Ex-Superman will star and executive produce films and series based on the cult universe.

Amazon has officially confirmed it acquired the global rights to Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000. The studio will start making films and series on the cult universe. The companies haven't specified whether other adaptations, including animated films and video games, were included in the deal.

Amazon Studios and Games Workshop will work on screen adaptations together with Vertigo Entertainment (Doctor Sleep, Barbarian). However, which project will be the first and what characters it will be dedicated to have not yet been disclosed. When Amazon will begin full-fledged production is also unclear. Currently, the studios are seeking writers, directors, and showrunners who will work on the projects.

The former face of The Witcher’s Geralt and DC’s Superman Henry Cavill is set to star in and executive produce the franchise across all Amazon Studios productions. The actor shared that he has loved Warhammer since early childhood, so he is happy to work on the film franchise.

"I have loved Warhammer since I was a boy, making this moment truly special for me. The opportunity to shepherd this cinematic universe from its inception is quite the honour and the responsibility," Cavill said. "I couldn’t be more grateful for all the hard work put in by Vertigo, Amazon and Games Workshop to make this happen. One step closer to making a nigh-on lifelong dream come true."

Cavill later posted a short teaser on Instagram where he assured fans that he would respect the universe and try to create "something fantastic that is, as of yet, unseen."
