Toei Animation has recently announced a new family feature film, Hypergalactic, which promises to be the most ambitious CGI film ever.
Created in collaboration with Naoto Oshima, Sonic the Hedgehog's Designer, the film will tell a story about a brave teenage girl named Fisher and her younger brother who free the forgotten Earth protector, Ohkan, in the hopes of finding their missing parents. The trio embarks on a journey, where they learn the true importance of family.
Apart from Oshima, Producer Joseph Chou is also on the board, he contributed to Blade Runner 2022: Black Out, Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, and Ghost in the Shell. While David N. Weiss, who you might recognize for Shrek 2, will direct the project.
Speaking of the voice cast, it includes Adam Devine (The Gemstones), Elsie Fisher (Despicable Me), and JK Simmons (Whiplash).
Here's what the main Producer of the film, Yoshi Ikezawa, wanted to share about the film to build even more excitement.
"With Hypergalactic, the hugely talented Game Designer Oshima has created a multicultural adventure tale of epic scale – combining memorable global characters with a Japanese Anime aesthetic and a Western approach to storytelling," shared Toei Animation Producer Ikezawa. "We look forward to delivering our brand of quality animation to broader global audiences beyond our existing loyal and committed fan base."
As of now, the film is in post-production, so we may hear or even see more about the upcoming project soon. The creators haven't mentioned the release date or whether the film will be available in theaters or on digital platforms, but let's wait and see.
Speaking of other game adaptations, Nintendo is collaborating with Sony to bring the world of Legend of Zelda to the cinema.
