An Extended Look At The New Substance 3D Modeler

The new tool in beta with both desktop and VR interfaces looks easy to use.

During the latest Substance 3D stream, Adobe shared a new look at their Substance 3D Modeler app which is a modeling/sculpting tool that can be used to create both objects and scenes. The tool also has both a desktop interface and a VR interface.

The tech is based on Medium which was originally a VR-only tool but this one can be used without a headset. The new tool is said to take all of Medium's core strengths and combine them with more advanced desktop tools to allow users to construct more complex environments. The goal is to help designers turn ideas into 3D models as easily as possible. The team showed a number of intricate characters and scenes that took an hour or so to assemble.

Make sure to watch the full presentation with more details on Modeler and other updated tools including Substance 3D Painter and Substance 3D Designer above. The Modeler part starts at around 1:05. You can learn more about Modeler and sign up for beta here
