An Update on João Desager's SDF Modeling Plug-In for Blender

"Public Alpha is getting closer and closer."

Technical Artist and the creator of Miter Box João Desager has recently shared a long-awaited update on ConjureSDF, an upcoming plug-in that promises to add SDF modeling tools to Blender.

For those who may not be familiar, ConjureSDF has been in development since late February and was inspired by Lucian Stanculescu's modeling tool, Clavicula. Over the past year, João has been consistently sharing regular updates, demonstrating the ongoing development of the add-on and showcasing its features.

In the latest update, João displayed a small crate doodle created using the new toolset and revealed that he is currently working on the add-on's backend. Furthermore, he announced that the public Alpha version of the software is "getting closer and closer", saying that users can expect ConjureSDF to arrive in early 2024.

And here are some of the earlier showcases shared by the artist:

SDF - (Sign Distance Field) is an entirely different way of modeling.

It is intuitive and works very well with boolean operations. There are tools such as spline and MagicaCSG (CSG - Constructive Solid Geometry) which also use SDF as well. Unfortunately they don't have any good remesh or retopology options and import and export from Blender is kind of hit or miss.

Having a native solution inside Blender for SDF modeling built via an Add on is huge.

    I hope this releases soon.
