This is going to be big.
Look, I'm really trying, but it's very hard not to have high expectations for Baldur's Gate 3, especially when there are new details being uncovered every day. By now, we all know this is going to be a massive game with 174 hours of cutscenes only, but how big and varied is it?
Well, Fextralife talked to Chrystal Ding, the Associate Writing Lead at Larian Studios, and found out that Baldur's Gate 3 has 17,000 ending variations. What an astonishing number!
Okay, so I'm sure some of these are very small, but the idea itself is amazing and replayability is fantastic. When asked about the big changes, Ding couldn't come up with a number, but we probably can expect a lot to happen differently for everyone.
While it's mind-blowing, I can't say I'm very surprised. After all, the game's lead writer Adam Smith recently said he had to play BG3 18 times to test all the branches of a single character's story. So yes, it is huge.
Baldur's Gate 3 is coming to PC on August 3 and to PS5 on September 6, but developers are already worried about players considering it a standard for all future games. Larian's founder Swen Vincke is aware of the pressure and says they'll "try not to fuck up".
I'm looking forward to seeing what Larian has in store and how its version of the game differs from what Troika Games pitched 20 years ago.
