For those unaware, LuckyChap Entertainment is a production company run by Margot Robbie, her husband Tom Ackerly, Josey McNamara, and Sophia Kerr, describing their work as "female-focused film production". It's responsible for such well-known movies as I, Tonya, Birds of Prey, Promising Young Woman, and one of the biggest movies of last year, Barbie, following black comedy Saltburn, yet another hit of 2023.

Reportedly, The Sims movie adaptation is finally under way with LuckyChap being the one to produce the feature. Kate Herron, the director behind Loki, one of the most successful shows in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be in charge of the project and will also co-write the screenplay with Briony Reman, with whom she has a writing partnership.

The Sims series, which started as a somewhat satirical snapshot of living in the '90s American suburbia, has since become the biggest life simulation video game franchise, spawning four generations of games and spin-offs with the current mainlain game The Sims 4 released in 2014.

In a way, Sims shares similar traits with Barbie, as both franchises are considered "female-oriented" and lack a real narrative, with characters being essentially toys fully controlled by players with an endless pool of possibilities.

As for the movie adaptation, it has been in the works for a few years, but the production inevitably faced some obstacles. Now, it's official, and The Sims publisher Electronic Arts is said to be involved in "a creative and producing capacity". Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee will also join the project, as he's known for having a similar experience with IP adaptation for critically acclaimed Lego movies.
