Batman 2022: Batmobile Designer Shared Details on the Vehicle

Benjamin Last has shared some behind-the-scenes info on the iconic car from a new Batman movie.

With the new long-awaited Batman movie being released earlier this month, many 3D Artists, who are also fans of the iconic caped vigilante, want to learn more about the 3D art-related aspects of the film. Luckily for them, at least one of those aspects has been thoroughly explained – the new Batmobile. Concept Designer and Vehicle Illustrator Benjamin Last has shared a lengthy ArtStation post, explaining how the car came to be.

According to Benjamin, he was hired by Production Designer James Chinlund to create designs for the new Batmobile. The artist's original designs were based on representing aggression – the ability to ram things in the case of a vehicle. Most of the author's early concepts featured solid metal ramming bumpers reinforced by steel braces that ran the length of the car, cutting in and out of the bodywork and forming structural protection for the driver and mounting points for dual engines.

Here are some renders shared by Benjamin:

"I'll be posting early concepts of my original design theme, of which the front was picked to be we worked to fit alongside a design theme Ash Thorp was working up simultaneously," comments Benjamin. "In the early stages of production, I had the privilege of collaborating with good friend Colie Wertz to translate this theme from 2D and rough 3D into a complete design model that we passed on to the fantastic art directors who designed the final detailed 3D model for the build."
