BioShock Infinite Trailer Maker Notices Striking Similarities With Clockwork Revolution

A former BioShock Infinite trailer producer shared screenshots comparing their work with Clockwork Revolution presentation.

The recently debuted trailer for Clockwork Revolution, a first-person steampunk RPG, was unveiled during the Xbox 2023 Showcase and tells a story of a protagonist who aims to alter the course of history for the city of Avalon.

However, the fans couldn't help but notice the parallels between Clockwork Revolution and BioShock Infinite when they saw the game's first trailer. Comparisons were made right away, particularly with the story's emphasis on revolution, the aristocratic society, the use of sky rails, the adversaries' use of mechanised weapons, and the propaganda. These parallels were so strong that a user named Butmac claiming to have contributed to the production of BioShock Infinite trailers compared both games on Twitter.

The producer noticed some interesting similarities, including the presence of a Daisy Fitzroy-like character sporting a scarf. Both games also feature propaganda claiming that enemies are everywhere, mech-style enemies reminiscent of the Big Daddies or Handy Man from previous BioShock games, and grand statues and sky rails in a city.

These discussions prompted a reaction from Microsoft. Brian Fargo, the CEO of InXile's studio, explained that Clockwork Revolution is a real role-playing game with a focus on metrics, details, and intense reactivity, traits that the company is renowned for in its earlier role-playing games like Wasteland 3. In addition, at the start of the game, players can completely customise the main character. Microsoft has also insisted any similarities between inXile’s Clockwork Revolution and BioShock Infinite are “unintentional”.

Given the unclear state of BioShock 4, Clockwork Revolution could be able to satisfy BioShock franchise fans as a stand-in. Despite the fact that 2K and Cloud Chamber have not provided any updates, recent sources indicate that the highly anticipated game's production has been hampered by internal problems, resulting in several reboots and delays. Whether BioShock 4 will be released by 2025 is still up in the air. Currently, under production, Clockwork Revolution will be launched on PC and Xbox Series X systems. You can see the trailer here
