Bioware and Ubisoft Veterans Launch Yellow Brick Games
The new team will focus on a craftsmanship approach.
A team of industry veterans from Bioware and Ubisoft launched a new independent game studio called Yellow Brick Games. The company is located in Québec City, Canada, and the team includes Mike Laidlaw, former creative director of Dragon Age who spent 14 years at BioWare. Recently, he also worked as a creative director at Ubisoft.
Thomas Giroux, Jeff Skalski, and Frédéric St-Laurent B Ubisoft, Bioware, Electronic Arts and Activision Blizzard will help Laidlaw lead the studio.
Giroux will be managing the team as CEO, while Skalski is COO and executive producer, Laidlaw is chief creative officer, and St-Laurent B is the studio's game director.
They're also considering opportunities to recruit outside of the city like Montreal and "other countries." They will focus on a "craftsmanship approach," so it's not about the AAA structure they got used to.
'We want to emphasize a 'back-to-basics approach', centered on the pleasure of crafting new game experiences, in a flexible and more personable environment that an independent studio can provide," Giroux noted.
